Hird leaves ITN to pursue a portfolio career. She has been with the broadcasting organisation since 1988, working in general management marketing and HR. She moved into her current role in 2003 in preparation for the ITV merger between Granada and Carlton. ITV is currently in the process of recruiting a replacement and Hird, along with John Cresswell, chief operating officer at the TV station, is leading the search.
