Committed employees, happy and engaged in their work, are much less likely to call in sick. And a general sense of engagement helps mental health. As mental-health charity Mind estimates one in six employees is dealing with a mental-health problem, focusing on engagement is a sure-fire way to protect against future problems, and ensures that if anyone is struggling, they aren’t backwards in coming forward.
