The fortunes of the FTSE 100 index are connected to numbers looking for extra-marital activity

A direct link has been found between the behaviour of the FTSE 100 and the number of men and women seeking extra-marital affairs.

A website specialising in extra-marital affairs, illicitencounters.com, reports an increase in new profiles posted each time the FTSE 100 moves up or down. The company also reports a surge in site membership since the demise of Lehman Brothers in September 2008 (from 180,000 profiles to 310,000 profiles currently).

Sarah Hartley, a spokeswoman for illicitencounters.com, claims the credit crunch has made way for the ‘lingering lunch' because employees in the financial sector have more time on their hands to meet new people.

There has also been an increase in site membership from women in the financial services sector. Hartley adds: "We are not financial analysts here [but] as businesses start to regain their strength it is all hands on deck for most companies. Women who were once ‘office totty' are now being ignored because everyone is far too busy. This could explain the increase we have seen in female profiles."
