In 2010 Douglas was elected non-executive director of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and in 2011 was listed as a Most Influential Practitioner. His accolades include being the first HR director invited to speak to senior staff at the Royal Household at Buckingham Palace and receiving an honorary degree from Middlesex University, London.
