Two fifths of employees are not bothered by recession

Nearly two-fifths of employees (38%) claim the recession has made no difference to their lives according to a survey by workplace stress consultant, In Equilibrium.

While no UK staff admitted the recession had a positive effect on them, 41% expect to feel better by the end of the year.

The research finds just under two thirds (62%) think the economic downturn has had a negative effect on them personally.

But Jan Lawrence, director of In Equilibrium, said the mental impact of the recession could not be ignored by bosses: "Financial health and mental health are closely linked and job security, debt and redundancy all contribute to mental distress. Some experts are suggesting there could be a 26% increase in mental health problems, affecting more than 1.5 million people in the UK as a result of the downturn," she said.
