HR numbers grow in businesses with increasing need for recruitment and L&D strategies

The London HR market is growing in confidence, with the permanent recruitment market showing greater signs of activity, according to the latest Talent Spotlight from Badenoch and Clark, published today.

Sarah Wynn, operations director at the recruitment firm, said: "The London HR market is growing in confidence. The permanent market is showing greater signs of activity, and organisations are exhibiting more urgency to recruit, with faster processes, made easier by talented professionals feeling more confident to move."

"Professional services and the natural resources sectors have had the most pronounced levels of activity in recent months. However, this is measured with caution, demonstrated on the temporary side by few daily rates and more fixed term contracts. Blue chip companies are also busy, alongside manufacturing, automotive and FMCG.

"For the first time since the recession, we are seeing a real uplift in organisations focusing on investing in their people as a key priority. This is borne out by the increasing need for L&D professionals, particularly in larger companies across the Midlands, and is a natural next step after the first half of the year where the focus has been on HR BPs and strategic professionals to drive the strategy.

"The Midlands and the North are seeing a lot of demand for in-house recruiters. This is being driven by the desire to keep costs down, but demand is also being borne out by in-house recruitment professionals feeling more confident to leave existing roles to pursue new opportunities. Recruitment roles are particularly busy in financial services and oil & gas."

The report also showed permanent HR salaries up 1.95% from 2010 and permanent vacancies in HR are up 0.33% (2,127) from the report published in June

Wynn added: "The HR market appears to be creeping slowly back up, with both salaries and vacancies starting to see an increase; this is being fuelled by demand growing within specific industries such as manufacturing and professional services." to drive the strategy."

The trends described in the Talent Spotlight are based on insight from Badenoch & Clark's industry experts. A new feature of the report, Market Data, is compiled using market intelligence from major job boards, data from all brands within Adecco Group UK & Ireland, company websites, social networking sites, SalaryTrack, the market's leading earnings information service, and www.mysalarychecker.com.
