Paul Phillips, head of people strategy at Logica, said: "As the war around productivity and talent gets hotter, smarter working is no longer an option. No matter how much navel-gazing you do, you can't predict the future."
He said the term 'work-life balance' was detrimental to HR strategy. "This gives the wrong impression to senior management," he asserted. "We need instead to talk about 'productivity policies'.
"Organisations will be smaller, but networks will be larger and uncontrollable. The future of work is about innovation and if HR can't pounce, it will be unable to serve businesses of the future."
