According to a survey carried out by Capita Interim Management, 65% of interim managers believed their skills were transferable and 75% of employers agreed. But while interims said they could move between sectors, employers said they would prefer to hire from their own sector.
Of employers surveyed 87% said there was a cultural difference between the public and private sectors and almost 40% admitted this affected the way they hired people.
Gwen Carter, director of Capita Interim Management, said: "There has always been a belief that public and private-sector organisations are very different. From my experience of recruiting in both sectors, I have found candidates often think they should be able to move between sectors, but employers are a lot less likely to share this view and typically hire from within their own sector."
