More than half of the 1,985 members of the public asked regard the medical profession as having the most talented individuals. Teachers were ranked second, with 39% categorising it as a talented profession. Both beat jobs in sectors such as law (29%), management consultancy (8%) and accountancy (6%).
Respondents to the Training and Development (TDA) survey rated each profession on the ability to motivate and inspire, as well as creativity, leadership and strategic thinking.
The results precede a TDA recruitment campaign to attract jobseekers into teaching.
“In today’s job market, every sector is fighting for quality candidates,” says Graham Holley, chief executive of the TDA. “But teaching stands out as one of the few professions that is rewarding and intellectually challenging. Tomorrow’s stars are more likely, therefore, to be found in the classroom than behind a corporate desk.”
