CIPD launches free tool to help HR staff map out their careers

The CIPD has launched a free professional development tool for HR practitioners.

The product, known as My HR Map is an online self-assessment tool to allow CIPD members to assess themselves against the activities, knowledge and behaviours set out in the CIPD HR Profession Map.

The tool allows users to be clear about where they are now, and makes practical recommendations for the steps they need to take to reach the next stage in their careers, and where appropriate the support available to help them make that transition.  It has been designed to support HR professionals at every stage of their career - from new entrants, right up to the most senior practitioners in the profession.

Stephanie Bird, director of HR capability at the CIPD, said: "This is a powerful and simple to use personal development tool for professionals operating at all levels in HR.  Not only is it free for members to use, we've also carefully designed it to ensure that many of the suggested actions to help professionals progress are low-cost or no-cost - which will be particularly welcome at a time when the recession is ensuring resources for development are tight.

"Professionals can use the tool to develop in their roles and pursue their career plans.  We hope the insights it delivers will quickly become a firm fixture in the performance and development reviews of HR professionals in organisations of all shapes and sizes and across all sectors."
