ROI

Measuring the return on investment of health and wellbeing schemes can be a major stumbling block for HR departments, especially when dealing with intractable senior board members who need to see numbers to believe an initiative is worth having.

Common metrics for measuring success including absence and turnover data, and results from employee engagement surveys.

Housing association One Vision Housing invested £12,000 in its ‘Feel Good’ initiative. Tangible results included a massive reduction in absence, from 8% in 2006 to 0.93% in 2012, a reduction in staff turnover from 21% to 7% in 2011/12 and a 95% staff satisfaction rate (up from 75% in 2008).

And research by BITC has found an ROI of £6.19 for every pound invested in staff health and wellbeing. There’s no arguing with that.
