Paula Porter, senior VP people, Carnival UK

Porter started her career in retail working for Marks and Spencer on its management training scheme. This followed various HR roles in Bodyshop, B&Q and John Lewis Partnership.

While working she then studied for her CIPD qualification along with other more general managerial/leadership development studies.

Porter also spent some time working for a maritime cargo business where she headed up the HR and training and development function.

During Porter's career she has taken time out to travel and sail with her husband, and has lived and worked abroad in Germany.

Prior to Carnival she had spent five years as an interim manager working for a variety of companies and carrying out various HR, change and project roles.

She then carried out an maternity leave interim assignment where she was then asked to stay.
