Hannah Foster, director of HR, National Church Institutions of the Church of England

?In 2014, Hannah Foster took a vocational move from a global HR leadership role in a FTSE100 company to become the director of HR for the National Church Institutions of the Church of England.

As only the second holder of the position in an institution where HR is still a developing function with a wide brief of activity including supporting governance and developing legislation, Hannah has led initiatives on culture and organisational development programmes within the National Church to support and enable the mission and ministry of the Church on the ground.

Foster has led work to modernise the approach on recruitment, diversity, internal communications and stakeholder engagement. This is all part of the wider Church’s Renewal and Reform programme of work that is ensuring the C of E contributes as the national church to the common good, facilitates the growth of the church in numbers and depth of discipleship and re-imagines the church's ministry for today’s world.

Prior to this, most of Foster's career was undertaken across the businesses in Pearson, her most recent posts being global HRD of Pearson’s English language education businesses and Business Adoption Lead of the global back office infrastructure programme of change. Foster was also a parliamentary candidate in the 2010 General election.

Foster is a trustee of Livability (the disability and community engagement charity) and St Petcock’s (Exeter), a charity for homeless and the vulnerably housed. Foster is also a partner in the farming business that she and her husband have built since his retirement from the military. This aims to fulfil their belief in self-sufficient, high welfare and low environmental impact farming and, in that guise, sells eggs from her farm to colleagues!
