Squeezed middle management face most pressure at work says Lane4 survey

More than 90% of UK workers believe the vast majority of workplace stress is falling on middle management, which is also filtering down to junior staff, according to a study published today by business performance consultants Lane4 and conducted by research firm OnePoll.

More than two fifths (43%) of the 1,500 employees surveyed admit feeling under pressure at work. Middle management suffers the greatest stress levels, with two in five (39%) under severe stress, reports the study.

It also found that 48% of workers in the private sector have had their workload increased following redundancies at their company. The report also found that as result of the economy, over a third (34%) are worried about their job security.

One in five (20%) reported that junior staff just starting their careers also felt extreme pressure.

Adrian Moorhouse, managing director of Lane4 said: "It's a leaders job to ensure all staff are able to cope in these tough times. If it's junior staff that are feeling a large amount of pressure as revealed in the study, they must provide the tools and techniques to help develop resilience and success strategies. This will help them to thrive on the pressure, rather than crumble beneath it."

OnePoll conducted the online survey of over 1,500 UK employees in July 2012.
