Jobs slashed at Everything Everywhere

Everything Everywhere, the venture created through the merger of Orange and T-Mobile's UK businesses, is cutting 1,200 jobs.

The group, which reported second quarter revenues down by 5% and underlying profits down by 19%, said the cuts amounted to 7.5% of its 16,000 strong workforce. Roles in the firing line are those where there is duplication following the tie-up earlier this year.

Chief executive Tom Alexander called the losses "regrettable" but added that they would not affect front line staff working in stores or call centres.

Everything Everywhere, jointly owned by France Télécom and Deutsche Telekom, plans to save at least £3.5 billion in costs by 2014.
