Recruit qualities over qualifications, says Phones4U director of recruitment

In spite of falling unemployment and a rise in university applications, youth unemployment is still climbing.

The under-utilisation of this fantastic resource is a major political, business and social issue. Figures published last month by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) found youth unemployment reached 15,000 in the last quarter, which equates to 21.4% of young people still out of work.

Needless to say, competition for jobs among 16-24-year-olds is fierce. For employers, such an incredible pool of talent is a great opportunity. However, with so many jobs over-subscribed, HR teams have to sift through a vast number of applications to find their ideal candidate.
