Jane Storm, chief people officer, Saga Group

Jane Storm starts her new role as chief people officer and executive committee member of Saga Group, the financial services and travel business, in October 2019

Before this she was CPO of Connect Group, a niche printed media and freight distribution business.

During Storm’s 25 years' HR experience she has advised businesses on becoming more customer-centric and digital in their operational focus and outlook. She specialises in cultural change, building capability and colleague engagement, and is passionate about the role of organisation design in enabling purpose, strategy and capability.

As a business and CIPD graduate she started her career in financial services and HR graduate roles at JP Morgan and then Prudential. The majority of her career has been spent at Tesco working in a number of roles before rising to group people director for capability. She had a key role in enabling a business turnaround through the re-engagement and rebuilding of trust with customers and colleagues.

Storm is passionate about HR leaders gaining breadth of experience throughout their career in centre of expertise roles, as well has HR operations and programme management to enable the pace, curiosity and change leadership required in complex and uncertain markets.

Since joining Connect Group in early 2017 as CPO, Storm has revolutionised the people agenda. Her arrival coincided with a new business strategy that led to a challenging agenda including numerous divestments and closures. Storm’s role was to futureproof the organisation by re-engaging colleagues and transforming the culture. Storm has shown how to achieve more with less, and with smaller budgets and less resource she achieved spectacular change through company-wide involvement with simpler and more creative people-focused solutions.

Connect Group has gained external recognition for transforming in-house recruitment, with significant progress achieved in reducing vacancies and turnover despite the national shortage of drivers. Engagement has been transformed through ‘colleague voice’ forums and recognition programmes, enabled by new capability solutions at all levels. Inclusion has been critical to the culture change, leading with an ‘Everyone In’ agenda to address the diversity challenges typical within the sector.

Storm has advised the CIPD on diversity and inclusion in support of it focus on the Future of Work and is passionate about the role played in this area.

Away from work her interests include gardening, entertaining and walking, alongside her passion for creating new experiences and memories with her family. She is married with two daughters and a son.
