Post-reshuffle: employment minister to focus on youth unemployment

Incoming department for work and pensions (DWP) employment minister Mark Hoban is to give improved support to young people looking for work.

The MP for Fareham and former financial secretary is to focus on youth unemployment. He said: "I want to ensure that we give every possible opportunity to our young people, building on the early successes of the Youth Contract and work experience schemes.

"Getting youngsters onto that first rung of the jobs ladder is one of the most important tasks facing any employment minister," he added.

Hoban said he hoped to improve on initiatives the Government had already laid out, such as the Work Programme.

"I want to give people all the help and support they need to take up the jobs that are out there," he added.

At yesterday's Prime Minister's Questions, Labour leader Ed Milliband criticised the moves by the Government, saying: "It is the same old faces, the same old policies, a no-change reshuffle."

Tunbridge Wells MP Greg Clarke has replaced Mark Hoban as financial secretary to the treasury.
