Employee spend on the McDonald's staff discount scheme tops 2 million

McDonald's has claimed record success with the launch of its new employee discounts scheme as its staff break the 2 million discount spend within the first three months of launch.

With the large majority of McDonald’s workforce being based across 1,200 restaurants as opposed to being office-based, over 60% of its 80,000 staff have registered for the scheme through the company’s award-winning staff website, ourlounge.co.uk.

The new scheme, which was rolled out by Asperity Employee Benefits in March, integrates with the ‘ourlounge’ site and introduces employees to a range of discounts at over 1,500 popular retailers including cashback offers, discounted gift vouchers and discount codes.

McDonald’s attributes this success to the simplicity of the scheme and the great range of discounts and offers available which are even more accessible on ‘ourlounge’ since the introduction of a staff PC in every restaurant.

UK HR director Jez Langhorn said; "We have one of the most diverse workforces in the UK and we want to provide the best and most extensive range of benefits possible. The ‘ourlounge’ website has become a central pillar of our staff engagement strategy and is a perfect shop window through which to showcase the new scheme.  Our staff are demonstrating how much they value it with over half of our 80,000-strong workforce logging on every day"

The instant popularity of the scheme meant that McDonald’s employees surpassed the £1million spend milestone more quickly than any other Asperity client and the momentum has continued at pace with the figure now growing to over £2 million.
