HR professionals missing out on leadership development

HR professionals are missing out on leadership development opportunities, with 47% of companies not offering leadership programmes to members of the HR function, according to Korn Ferry.

Nearly half (48%) of businesses said members of the HR function are not considered for high potential programmes.

For those HR professionals given the chance to go on leadership development programmes, 66% of the 700 global executives surveyed admitted programmes for HR staff are not as rigorous as those for other functions.

More than half (58%) said they don’t think senior HR leaders receive the necessary development opportunities to perform to their best. The same percentage (58%) reported their business had no succession plan for the CHRO.

Korn Ferry senior client partner Arvinder Dhesi called the situation “the perennial problem of the cobbler’s children having no shoes”.

“As the HR function continues to become more complex and entrenched in the strategic aspects of the business, it is critical that HR leaders are offered key development opportunities to help them succeed,” he added.
