Top career tip: Don't let others forget the people

Valerie Hughes D'Aeth, HRD for the BBC, says communicating that people are your advantage is key

Wondering how to reach the next stage of your career? Though it might sound obvious, one crucial aspect is remembering to advocate the importance of the people in your organisation to the wider business, according to the speakers at our HR Future Leaders Forum.

Valerie Hughes D'Aeth, HRD for the BBC, said that people are one of the most competitive advantages businesses can have. "HR has a huge role to play to ensure everyone in an organisation is maximising the potential of the people," she said.

Michael Moran, chief executive of 10Eighty, explained it is really important for HR to develop its own talent. "In today's business it is all about the people and maximising their productivity," he said. "To achieve that objective you need highly talented professionals."

Kirsty Gill, VP reward and OE for ARM, pointed out that HR is responsible for creating the organisations of the future. "HR people are in the best place to create great places to work," she said. "Places where people can thrive and succeed, and add great value to our businesses."
