Jane Hanson moves from First Direct leaving the insurer without a human resources director

First Direct no longer has an HR director and its HR functions will be handled by parent company HSBC.

Jane Hanson (pictured), previously HR director at insurance firm First direct and winner of HR magazine's HR Director of the Year 2008, has moved to HSBC to take on the role of head of customer experience, HR magazine has learned.

The move comes following a restructure in HSBC, announced last week, which could result in as many as 1,200 redundancies.

While a spokesman from HSBC said the company could not comment on individual circumstances, he added: "Our HR division is changing and it is doing so around three key drivers. These are the development of a target operating model with one HR platform per region, the implementation of processes and systems that are designed to global standards, and the optimisation of our people capability - in other words, lifting our game.

"First direct HR services have always been a part of the overall HSBC operation (just as the entire business is a part of HSBC) but the move to one human resource platform in the UK means First Direct will not have its own separate HR functions, as these are being integrated into the UK platform. It will however continue to have its own teams headed by a senior HR "business partner", rather than an "HR director", and these teams will take services off the central UK HR platform. There will therefore still be a senior HR contact within first direct."

The position of head of people experience at First Direct is changing and HR report on the new person in the role as soon as it is assigned.
