The platform, provided by Sage HR & Payroll, includes integrated modules incorporating recruitment, online recruitment, personnel records management, training, HR administration, succession planning and employee and line manager self-service.
The software will allow the firm to consolidate employee data currently spread across different databases and will allow approximately 800 line managers to view team data online.
Sheridan Flavin, HR director of First Great Western, said: "The software contains a wide range of features that will help us make significant changes across the business."
Depending on the success of the platform at First Great Western and First TransPennine Express, the train and bus company is considering rolling it out UK-wide.
