Employers with a green agenda reap the benefits despite the recession

Despite the economic downturn businesses around the world are still proving to be committed to the green agenda and staff feel proud to work for environmentally friendly employers.

Research from Kenexa, set to coincide with Earth Day today (22 April 2009), shows 71% of employees in the UK feel their organisation has a green or environmentally-friendly business approach, compared to India (85%), Germany (73%),
France (72%), Canada (70%), Spain (64%) and the US (63%).

More than half of UK employees (51%) reported they feel more pride working for an organisation with green credentials - compared to a global average of 49%. And 80% of staff in India feel more pride working for an organisation when it employs green business practices.

Anne Herman, at the Kenexa Research Institute, said: "Even in a time of fairly substantial economic challenges for most organisations, many are still practising green or eco-friendly efforts. Employees who work in organisations that do focus on environmental initiatives and actions report stronger pride in the organisation and this shows that organisations, even while facing challenges through the state of the economy, can reap the rewards of being environmentally conscious."
