Bus-ticket job advertisements are seen as an effective way to target young jobseekers

Employers have put their recruitment message directly into the hands of their target market by advertising their vacancies on bus tickets.

Aviva and Standard Life are among the companies working with advertising firm Ticketmedia to advertise the jobs on offer on bus tickets as they see it as an effective way to target 16 to 24 year-olds.

Jim Spowart, managing director of Standard Life, said: "The bus ticket campaign resulted in a tremendous response from the public. The value of these tickets is that people sit with them in their hand on the bus as they travel to and from work."

Susannah Burbidge, sales and marketing director at Ticketmedia, added: "If businesses are to recover and resume growth, they need to focus resources on strategies that are most likely to bring the immediate desired results rather than throw the net wide and see what comes in - that's a luxury that is no longer viable for many companies at present.

"We have just run a campaign in the Perth area for Aviva to recruit claims advisers. Staff turnover in this sector can often be high and applicants for this kind of role may well not read newspapers - but they are very likely to use buses."
