Board directors are pleased with their own performance

Board directors think more highly of their company than those in less senior roles in the organisation, according to a new Roffey Park study.

More than eight out of 10 board directors rated the overall quality of leadership in their organisations as effective. This compares with 62% of other directors and senior managers, and 52% of middle managers.

The Management Agenda 2008 study also reveals that organisations with a long-hours working hour culture reap the financial rewards. Nine out of 10 managers in organisations that are outperforming financial expectations work long hours. This compares with 67% of managers in under-performing organisations.

“Those organisations outperforming financially might need to monitor the sustainability of this performance given how hard their staff need to work to deliver this for them,” warns Jo Hennessy, director of research at Roffey Park.
