From a total of 795 organisations, 639 made the grade and are receiving their accreditation of one star, two stars, three stars or one-to-watch at a series of presentations being held this week at the Cumberland Hotel in London.
Research accompanying the Best Companies listing shows 37% of employees at three-star accredited companies (those with the highest engagement levels) are worried about the impact of the current economic climate on their organisation's future, compared with twice this number (two thirds) in organisations that did not receive accreditation.
Jonathan Austin, chief executive of Best Companies, said: "The research highlights why companies need to ensure staff are engaged now more than ever. Those employees who are involved and committed to their organisation feel more confident about their organisation's future in these uncertain times - putting their companies in the best position to survive the recession.
"Companies that received accreditation are among the best employers in the country and we congratulate them on their achievement."
Best Companies to Work For: 55 organisations get three stars
Fifty-five companies including Beaverbrooks the Jewellers, Nando's, Pannone and Office Angels achieved three stars in the 2009 Best Companies to Work For survey.
