The scheme has closed to applications and, following a selection process, 220 recruits will be offered a place in finance management, HR management, general management or informatics management.
The organisation believes the high number of applicants could be a result of the economic downturn.
But Nicola Fair, corporate lead for the NHS graduate management training scheme, said: "We're really pleased to see the number of applications this year has increased steeply. It means we have an even larger pool of talented graduates who have the potential to succeed in the NHS. The quality of applicant improves year on year and I look forward to seeing the trend continue next year."
83% rise in NHS graduate training applications
More than 12,000 graduates applied to join the NHS graduate management training scheme in September 2009 marking an 83% increase on last year's applications.
