Finnish manufacturer teams up with Video Arts to deliver staff training online

Finnish cargo-handling machinery manufacturer Cargotec has commissioned Video Arts to create a series of bespoke online learning programmes that will deliver consistent behavioural and performance-related training for its 10,000 employees across 120 countries.

The online resources will form part of a new global academy of learning, which Cargotec is developing to provide accredited technical and soft skills training for all staff. Video Arts has already developed a custom e-learning course on negotiation and effective pricing. It is developing a separate programme on collaborative working to improve processes and systems. Other bespoke programmes are also in development.

Malcolm Youll, Cargotec's VP of services development, said: "Online learning is a great way to provide consistent training across all of our locations, when and where it is needed.

"We were keen to include video in our online learning because video is an effective way to bring about long-term behavioural change.

"Video Arts is the leading company in video-based learning and its content has highly memorable learning messages. Its development team has helped us to identify our skills gaps, evolve our training strategy and develop our new academy.

"This is the first time that we have offered soft skills resources to our service engineers. With these online programmes, staff time away from the workplace can be kept to a minimum, so learning can take place without reducing productivity. By giving our staff access to consistent, high quality learning content, we will be helping them to improve their skills and enhance their performance. This is important because our employees are our most valuable asset when it comes to achieving our goals in the future," Youll added.

Video Arts is designing the new online programmes to address specific learning needs. Each programme will combine bespoke video, exercises and generic clips from best-selling Video Arts training films. Cargotec's employees will access the new online programmes via the company's learning management system.
