Andrew Stephenson joined Lookers, one of the UK’s leading automotive dealer groups, in May 2016. He is responsible both for HR and IT for the group
Lookers has a turnover of £4.7 billion and sells more than 220,000 vehicles per year from its 155 franchise dealerships representing 32 manufacturer brands. The business employs more than 8,500 employees across the UK and Ireland.
The company has been rated one of the Top 10 Employers in the UK by Glassdoor, is in the Sunday Times Top 25 Big Companies to Work For, and has achieved UK Top Employers recognition.
Prior to this he spent seven years at DFS as group HR and property director responsible for the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands and Spain. During that time the company added more than 1,500 new jobs via increased UK manufacturing and more than 40 new stores, raised over £6.5 million for charity through recycling sofas, and delivered over 800 nationally-recognised qualifications to its employees.
Stephenson also led a cultural transformation that led the company to win numerous awards for its outstanding customer experience and work in the field of youth employment.
Prior to DFS Stephenson held a number of HR and operational roles across retail and telecoms working for Virgin, Vodafone, B&Q and the Dixons Retail group.
He is a chartered fellow of the CIPD, a chartered manager and fellow of the CMI, and a fellow of the Institute of the Motor Industry. He holds a Master's degree in strategic HRM and has co-authored academic papers on the subject of customer loyalty measurement.
In addition to his role at Lookers Stephenson is a trustee for the Citizens Advice Bureau and chairs its remuneration committee, and a liveryman of the Furniture Makers' Company.
