With more than 20 years’ experience in the not-for-profit sector, Butt’s last role was as the award-winning director of one of the largest relief and development charities in the world, Islamic Relief Worldwide, leading a global HR team covering more than 40 countries.
An accountant at the start of his career, he is a qualified fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, holds a diploma in charity accounting from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales and is a chartered fellow of the CIPD with a masters in HRM. This gives him an interesting perspective on two of the most important areas of an organisation: finance and people. He has a great interest in multi-faith, multi-ethnic and multicultural environments and is on the CIPD board of Trustees as honorary treasurer and a member of the regional leadership team of Mosaic, part of the Prince’s Trust focused on raising the aspirations and self-esteem of young people in deprived communities.
