Mark Grimley, group director for people and corporate services, government of Jersey

Grimley took up post as the chief people officer for the government of Jersey in June 2019, heading up the largest employer on the Channel Island

Never intending to be anywhere near the public sector or people management, he now has nearly 20 years' experience in both areas, along with periods in the private and third sectors. His tenure in organisations is normally during times of significant change and restructuring.

Grimley focuses his team on connecting with the purpose of the organisation and encourages an outward-looking function. He embeds a risk- and evidence-based approach to decisions, avoiding unnecessary process and strips back the plethora of policies, procedures and low-value initiatives.

He enjoys larger complex organisations and develops configurable solutions across the organisation to avoid a one-size-fits-all solution. He encourages innovation within the profession and challenges the norms, using technology and data to drive and influence change.
