HRMI 2022: Simon Fanshawe, co-founder and managing director, Diversity by Design

Simon Fanshawe is the co-founder of diversity and inclusion consultancy Diversity by Design.

Fanshawe works with clients across multiple sectors, supporting them to create his vision for diversity and inclusion where spaces at work are safe for disagreement not from it, where pursuing diversity and inclusion is about valuing the power of difference, and not rules that impose conformity.

He is also chairman of housing association Hexagon Housing and is on the board of Powerful Women, an initiative to advance gender diversity within the energy sector.

In December 2021, Kogan Page published Fanshawe’s book The Power of Difference, which was nominated as Business Book of the Year in the Business Book Awards and for the CMI Management Book of the Year Awards.

He was awarded the OBE in 2013 and in the same year an honorary doctorate from Sussex University.

He lives in Brighton with his husband, and they have neither children nor dogs.

When not celebrating difference, he is cooking.
