HRMI 2022: Rachel Brace, HR director, The Football Association

Rachel Brace joined the executive team at The Football Association as HR director in 2016 to help transform the governing body into a world class organisation.

The role includes leading strategic HR programs that set the organisation up to deliver on its objectives, from winning a major tournament to serving the national game. Transforming the culture and developing strong leadership capability across the breadth of The FA’s remit are both well recognised success stories internally and externally.

In 2018, Brace led the launch of The FA’s In Pursuit of Progress equity, diversity and inclusion (ED&I) plan to ensure the diversity of those leading and governing football better reflects the modern game today.

It was a key part of The FA’s work towards promoting inclusion and equality, as well as tackling discrimination in English football. This plan helped to pave the way for future ED&I initiatives at The FA to create greater opportunities across all levels of the national game.

Brace joined The FA from England Rugby 2015, the tournament organisers for the World Cup, and was responsible for building and mobilising a workforce of over 6,000 people. Prior to that she was the head of HR operations for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
