HRMI 2021: Rob McCargow, Director of Artificial Intelligence, PwC UK

McCargow joined PwC UK 6 years ago and was appointed director of AI in 2018. In his role he advises global organisations and governments as well as internal stakeholders on how to harness the opportunities of emerging technologies to drive innovation and build trust.

He has a particular focus on the development of ethical AI, the application of pioneering technology to support human performance and wellbeing, the issues relating workforce automation, and the future skills agenda.

McCargow is a regular media commentator, keynote and TEDx speaker and an influential voice on social media. He is an advisory board member of the UK's All-Party Parliamentary Group on AI, an advisor to The IEEE Global Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems, and an honorary visiting fellow at Bayes Business School. He was voted 'Tech Community Leader of the Year' at CogX 2020.

McCargow grew up in Nottingham, studied medical microbiology at Newcastle University, and had an earlier career in executive search, HR transformation, and in the emergency humanitarian response sector. He is married with three children and a very lively Vizsla called Rusty.
