HRMI 2021: Melanie Tansey, Group HR Director, Hachette

Tansey was appointed group HR director of Hachette UK in January 2019. The UK’s second largest book publishing group, Hachette UK is in a period of significant growth, acquisition, and diversification and Tansey is responsible for the people strategy for the UK region, which includes offices in Australia, New Zealand, India, Singapore, the Caribbean, and Ireland.

Hachette UK was listed as one of The Times Top 50 Employers for Women in 2020 and 2021, in recognition of its commitment to gender equality. Hachette UK also won the Inclusivity Award at The London Book Fair International Excellence Awards 2021, for its transparent and holistic approach to diversity through a programme the company calls ‘Changing the Story’.

Tansey was named one of the most influential people in UK publishing in 2019 and 2020 by The Bookseller.

Tansey is a trustee of The Film and TV Charity, which works behind the scenes of the UK film, TV and cinema industry supporting people at every stage of their career and beyond.

She began her career at Hewlett Packard where she spent nine years, then joined ITN as group HR director where she spent eight years during a period of unprecedented growth and transformation.
