HRMI 2021: Andy Dodman, Chief HR Officer, Leeds City Council

Andy Dodman is the chief HR officer at Leeds City Council, the second largest Council in the UK. Andy moved into local government in September 2019 following a successful career at The University of Sheffield. 

He is a strategic and HR leader with a demonstrated history of working in large complex organisations. 

Skilled in business planning, culture change, talent and performance management and strategic & OD leadership, Dodman is a nationally acclaimed and multi award winning HR practitioner. He is a graduate of the universities of Leeds and Bath, and a chartered fellow of the CIPD.

Prior to his post at Leeds City Council, Dodman was chief operating officer, and before that the director of human resources at the University of Sheffield.

Since 2011, Dodman led the university’s people strategy and service delivery for its 8,500 staff, focusing on the attraction, growth and engagement of world-class talent. Dodman has particularly emphasised the importance of personal health, happiness and wellbeing in the workplace.

Outside of work, he loves running, tolerates cycling and struggles with swimming.
