Paul Kearns, chair, Maturity Institute

Paul Kearns is a founding member of the Maturity Institute and director of HR consultancy PWL, which he established in 1991. Kearns graduated in economics and economic history and entered the HR field in 1978.

Paul Kearns started in industrial relations before moving into training and development and eventually mainstream executive HR roles in the engineering and manufacturing sectors.

His book HR Strategy. Creating Business Strategy with Human Capital is a post-graduate set text and the basis for his core MBA programme and the executive education masterclasses and workshops that he presents. His thought leadership on maturity has been recognised in the closely allied disciplines of evidence-based HR and human capital management.

Kearns has spent his career promoting the setting of higher professional standards for HR and learning professionals and, as the UK’s principal expert on international HR standards for the British Standards Institution, helped to establish the first UK committee on the subject.

His latest book is Organizational Learning and Development: From an Evidence Base (2014).
