More equality needed on minimum wage

Currently the minimum wage for apprentices under the age of 19 is £95 per week, after the government raised it by £10 from £85 this week. Yet, it still falls short of the £119 paid to those over 22.
 
The Council supports the Government's announcement on Tuesday that minimum wage for apprentices is to be increased from £85 to £95 per week, but claims it does not go far enough.
 
Scott Forbes, a campaigner for the BYC, said: "This week's move to increase apprentice's pay is a step forward in the right direction, and will help lots of young apprentices. However, more needs to be done. Young people simply deserve equal pay for equal work through an equal national minimum wage."
