Demand for a 'mobile strategist' could help boost stagnant job market, survey finds

The mobile jobs market is booming and three-quarters (74%) of UK and US businesses have mobile-specific roles to fill, according to a survey of 600 HR managers by mobile applications and solutions company Antenna Software.

The survey, published yesterday, found that one in three UK and US companies have now brought in a 'mobile strategist' or 'chief mobile officer' - a person responsible for the development and execution of mobile projects across an entire business.

The research by revealed that the demand for workers with mobile skill-sets will accelerate in the next 12 months

Among those companies with mobile positions to fill, the survey found 25% have found it difficult to find the right workers, and of those companies the vast majority (93%) have indicated it is not due to a lack of applicants, but the absence of someone with the right qualities for the job.

Antenna's also found that the mobile skills-set most in demand with UK and US businesses at the present time are those relating to app development (20%) and device management (23%).

Jim Somers, chief marketing and strategy officer, Antenna, said: "As mobile matures, we expect to see a greater number of businesses expand their mobile teams and identify a mobile strategist to lead the way and ensure long-term success."

He added: "While mobile and wireless technologies have been part of business culture for many years, we are actually still in the early stages and only beginning to see the broad social and economic impact it will have for many years to come."

The online survey of 600 UK and US HR managers by Antenna Software was taken during September 2012.
