Stonewall has launched two new tools for lesbian, gay and bisexual jobseekers completing the charity’s suite of resources for gay people moving through education and their careers.

Proud Employers, a job site with posts exclusively from LGB-friendly employers joins the Starting Out Careers Guide which is now in its seventh edition and available online and in print.

Proud Employers has vacancies from the 600 major employers who are members of Stonewall's Diversity Champions programme and is supported by founding partners including Barclays, BP and Credit Suisse.

Starting Out is targeted at lesbian, gay and bisexual students, graduates, jobseekers and career switchers in Britain. All employers profiled in the guide are Diversity Champions and have committed to supporting their gay staff and creating inclusive workplaces.

Laura Doughty, Stonewall deputy chief executive, said: "Attracting, developing and retaining the most talented staff is key for all of the employers Stonewall works with. By advertising vacancies on our dedicated site or showcasing why they are an employer of choice in the careers guide, these employers directly reach out to lesbian, gay and bisexual talent, who look for employers who recognise that people perform better when they can be themselves."

Thousands of copies of Starting Out, supported by Credit Suisse, are being distributed to students' unions, university career services, employment agencies and university lesbian and gay societies and sixth forms across Britain. The websites are integrated, with vacancies available on the Proud Employers site also appearing on the relevant employers' profile on the Starting Out site. And for the first time the guide is divided by sector, so that jobseekers can locate employers more easily.

Starting Out and Proud Employers are a part of Stonewall's suite of resources for LGB people whether in education or employment. Other tools include Gay By Degree, which profiles the support each university offers for gay students.

Excellent initiative

An excellent initiative. The business case for a diverse workforce is undeniable. It is good to hear that some employers in the UK recognise this - promote and celebrate difference and use it for a business advantage

Your headline is wrong!

If the headline was true this would surely be discrimination against "straight" people. Luckily the text of the article makes it clear that the site is exclusively offering jobs from LGB-friendly employers. These jobs are presumably open to anyone.
