Eversheds updates its L&D structure to progress careers based on skills rather than length of service

Eversheds has modernised its internal learning and development framework in order to foster a performance-based rather than term-based route to career progression.

The framework, which includes bite-sized learning modules, interactive webinars, face-to-face training and practical support tools and checklists has been developed to help harness employees' performance in line with the firm's ethos of client service excellence. 

The law firm's learning and development framework applies to all employees and is split across five key skill areas - strategy and knowledge, clients, people, behaviour  and profit  - to help employees tailor a bespoke programme based on their personal skill levels and any identified gaps. Individuals can then focus their development and all-round performance towards their career aims.

Eversheds' HR director, Angus MacGregor, said: "We're focused on developing the best lawyers we possibly can, and it's clear that in order to do this, we need a learning and development framework that focuses on skills rather than ‘years in the tin'.  The firm as a whole is tremendously proud of its track record for innovation in the legal sector, of which our renewed framework is a pivotal example."
