As a growing number of university graduates compete for employment, the UK's official graduate careers website run by Graduate Prospects reported a 37% rise in applicants from February to March 2009 - marking a year-on-year increase of 40%.

The site received 1.1 million page impressions in March, partly attributable to a modernisation of its job search facility and improvements across the site, including the option for recruiters and applicants to add video content.

Alan Brown, director of sales at Graduate Prospects, said: "The site provides a series of fresh features, including 21 new work sectors so recruiters can be more targeted with their campaigns. A revised job search facility has ensured graduates can find their dream job more easily.

"We have taken a totally integrated approach throughout the site, providing a central point for marketing and recruiting to this hard-to-reach niche audience."
