Recession and job insecurity make employees cancel holidays

More than half of employees (51%) have cancelled or plan to cancel their summer holidays this year because of the recession and fears of losing their job.

As millions of UK employees settle back into work following the Easter weekend, research of 1,000 jobseekers from TipTopJob.com shows 48% think staff who take holidays while redundancies are being made are more likely to lose their job.

And, given the rising redundancies, 53% of the respondents who said they would be taking a holiday this year would be more likely to contact the office while they were away - just to be on the safe side.
