Tesco is to reward staff with over 200 million worth of extra employee benefits over Christmas and the New Year.

All 268,000 employees at the retailer will be allowed an extra day's holiday for Christmas shopping and will be awarded a potential £96 each in vouchers and savings at Tesco stores.

Louise Pocock, UK benefits manager at Tesco, said: "Following our aim to make Tesco a great place to work, we always strive to increase and enhance all members of staff. We are very aware this Christmas and next year will be one of the tightest times for finances and for this reason Tesco is committed to offering savings and discounts to staff throughout the year."
