The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has launched a research study aimed at helping young drivers stay safe when driving for work.

RoSPA will survey managers who employ drivers aged between 17 and 25 and will compare driving styles of young and experienced drivers on risk, route planning, fuel awareness and hazard awareness.

There will also be focus groups for young drivers themselves.

Duncan Vernon, RoSPA road safety manager for England, said: "A range of factors put young drivers at particular risk, including their lack of experience, weakness in identifying potential hazards and attitudes such as over-confidence.

"The findings will enable us to develop new road safety resources and they will also inform the Driving Standards Agency as it develops strategies for post-test training for young drivers at work and lifelong driver development in general."

The report on the findings is expected in March next year.
