Ten senior BBC executives have had their bonuses suspended indefinately.

The organisation's governing body The BBC Trust, banned the bonuses following public anger over high salaries and bonuses of more than £100,000, The Daily Telegraph reports.

Writing in today's Daily Telegraph, Sir Michael Lyons, chairman of The BBC Trust, said: "In February we formally asked the Executive Board's non executive directors to conduct a review of BBC executive pay. This is looking at base pay and other incentives and will take account of the expectations of licence fee payers as well as market realities.

"Findings are due in the autumn, but I can reveal we have already reached agreement that Executive Board bonus payments will be suspended until further notice and not reintroduced without the Trust's approval."

The announcement follows an announcement from the BBC's director general Mark Thompson, in January, that as part of a money saving initiative, the broadcasting company would freeze the salaries of 400 managers, and lower grade staff would have pay reviews but would not be eligible for bonuses.
