Job prospects positive despite economic climate

22 May 2008

The majority of workers are confident in their ability to remain in or get a new job, despite fears of an economic downturn, according to a new report.

Research from Jobsite.co.uk shows that 67% of workers are confident about their job prospects, with 47% planning to move jobs this year in order to increase their pay packet.

These workers can expect to boost their salaries by an average of £750, although 43% will gain more than £1,000 and 28% more than £2,000.

But the credit crunch is affecting how people are spending their earnings, with 32% planning to make bigger mortgage repayments and 15% aiming to pay off their credit card debts.

“Traditionally recession is associated with decreased job security and in previous economic downturns many workers have been worried about losing their jobs,” says Keith Potts, CEO of Jobsite.co.uk. “However, it seems that UK jobseekers are still feeling optimistic about their future job prospects and are even looking to improve their salaries.”
