Aramark sets up parenting classes to help staff with work-life balance

Aramark has taken steps to improve the work-life balance of its senior management by coaching them in how to balance parenting with the demands of working life.

The food service company hopes staff attending the training programme will gain essential skills to use at home and work to boost their performance and confidence.

The course shows them the importance of influencing their children's self-esteem as well as how to understand and manage youngsters' behaviour.

Robbie Wheeler, HR director at Aramark, said: "We want to demonstrate to our employees that their welfare is important to us and part of this is making sure they know that they are valued and to show we are listening to them.

"We are aware that juggling work and family life can be a struggle, particularly in these stressful economic times, so we want to provide coping techniques to make employees' lives easier, both at home and at work.

"This in turn will promote a more motivated management team, which will have a positive effect on the rest of the staff."

Kudos to Aramark,

Focusing on helping parents will not only give you a more motivated management team but it will also increase your bottom line and give you a great ROI. I get so excited when I hear about family friendly companies who know the value of keeping their employees happy - parents in particular. As a parent coach who has worked with many working families to help them with work-life balance issues, I can tell you that offering services and support like this to working parents has a positive impact on the productivity and climate of the workplace. http://www.theprogressiveparent.com/employers.html

When I came across this blog, I felt compelled to register just to applaud your efforts. Parenting education and support of any type will go far in reducing the stress that working parents may feel and calm, happy parents are calm, happy employees. Also, a company that offers/sponsors a parent training program to it's employees onsite or off is the sign of a company that really cares.

Keep up the great work,

Connie Hammer, MSW & PCI Certified Parent Coach
