HR's Peter Crush awarded HR journalist of the year

HR magazine's Peter Crush last night scooped the award for Journalist of the Year (professional media), in the Towers Watson Awards for Excellence in HR Journalism.

Crush won the coveted award for his analysis into the salaries of HR directors in the public sector. He took the award from HR magazine's editor Sian Harrington, who was awarded the accolade at last year's awards, where HR magazine was awarded HR publication of the year (professional).

Crush was also highly commended in the category for Talent Management and Career Development.

Chantal Free, UK head of rewards, talent and communications at Towers Watson, said: "Our panel of judges were impressed with the diversity, quality and engaging style of all the submissions and were particularly amazed by the broad range of media where HR management issues are now covered. There have been dramatic changes in the last year, pushing business firmly to the front of newspapers and magazines. All submissions show that in these times HR management issues are both important and high on the corporate agenda."

The judging panel comprised respected figures from the UK's human resources profession including: Mark Wells (group director of HR at Experian), Martyn Fisher (head of group reward at Aviva), Oonagh Ryden (VP reward at BT global services), Theresa Schneider (head of leadership and organisation development at RBS), Stefan Stern (former Financial Times journalist and now director of strategy at Edelman) and Jim Crawley and Chantal Free (both from Towers Watson's Talent & Reward practice).

Peter Crush wrote the winning pieces as deputy editor of HR magazine. He has since left to pursue a career in freelance journalism, but remains a monthly contributor to HR.
